Back in Action

By Erin McGovern, Macaroni Kid Albany September 5, 2018

In life, sometimes you need to step back to see a clearer picture.

For me, I hit this point in early 2018; I felt lost, without purpose, and as if nothing in my life was receiving the time and dedication it deserved. Since I could not give 100% to anything, I stepped back from everything to find myself; this included Macaroni Kid Albany.

Now, several months and therapy sessions later, I feel like I am redefining myself. I have been a parent since I was 21; along the way I just kept diving deeper and deeper into motherhood and neglecting myself. Recently someone asked me what my hobbies/interests were and I could not answer other than to say "I'm a Mom." While being a mom is a wonderful gift, it is not a hobby, and I had lost all the things that make me an individual. In redefining what I enjoy and what makes me happy, I found that I truly missed Macaroni Kid; I missed the people I have met, the fun activities we've participated in, and all that I provide to the community. So here I am, back and ready for fun!

To kick off our first newsletter, we have a great giveaway from the Palace Theatre for two tickets to Lord of the Dance. You can read more about the show and how to enter here

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and this has always been a topic near and dear to my heart. My grandmother for years donated to St. Jude's Children Research because she was grateful to have three healthy grandchildren. For some families, this is not the case and every person who is more aware helps those who are affected. To help bring more awareness to our community we will have an article every week of September that focuses on some aspect of childhood cancer. This week, we highlight a local charity that not only brings joy to all families through its events, but derives its mission from the journey they took when their family was affected by childhood cancer. You can read more about their story here.

I'm looking forward to keeping you "in the know" when it comes to local family fun.

Until next time...
